History reference

Kazan State Technical University was established in 1932. The history of the Technical University is closely connected with the progress of aeronautics in this country. Fundamental education and profound scientific research are the distinguishing features of our university which make it very attractive for the great number of young people. Until the recent time it was well known as Kazan Aironautical Institute. In 1973 the Institute was named after the prominent aircraft designer Andrey N.Tupolev. In 1992 it got the status of the State Technical University.

The University is situated in the centre of Kazan city. Kazan (population = 1.2 mln.) is a capital of the Republic of Tatarstan (population = 3.8 mln., area = 68,700 sq. km). Kazan is a large industrial, cultural and education center of the Russian Federation, situated on the Volga river, 800 km East from Moscow. There are 64 universities and higher education institutions and about 170,000 students in Kazan city. There are 5 state theaters, including Opera and Ballet, Tatar and Russian Drama, Conservatory, etc.

The University was authorized by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation in 2002.

University today

Today the University is one of the leading Russian institutions in aircraft and rocket engineering, engine- and instrument-production, computer science and radio engineering, and is the largest Technical University of the Republic of Tatarstan and the region.

The University also has a Preparatory Department, an Advaced Training Department, a Continued Education Center, a Regional Center of New Information Technologies, a Scientific Library, Post-graduate and Doctoral Candidate's Schools training for Ph.D. and D.Sc. degree.

The University has got Scientific-Research Institute for Diagnostic and Control of Physical & Chemical Processes, Joint Scientific-Research Institute of Experimental Aesthetics, Scientific-Research Centre of Industrial Electrodynamics, Scientific-Research Centre of Dynamics and Strength, and Regional Innovating Scientific Centre.

Kazan State Technical University teaches about 22,000 students on 65 majors in Engineering, Business and Humanitarian Sciences by the university faculty body of 3000 persons, including 150 Full Profs. & D.Sc. degree holders, 600 Associate Profs. & Ph.D. degree holders.

The University is housed in 7 perfectly equipped buildings. It has got 6 student's dormitories,and a hotel. A sport complex includes 5 well-equipped indoor sports halls, ski- & water-stations. The University also has got a sportive camp in the picturesque place on the Volga river, 40 km away from Kazan.

International Cooperation

Kazan State Technical University has a rich experience in training of foreign students.From the very beginning 50^th students from Albania, Bulgaria, China, Czechslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Korea, Polen, Romania have got here their education. Nowadays they are eminent enterpreners of industry, teachers and scientists in their home countries.

At present , foreign students from Near and Middle East, South Asia, Europe take training courses at the university. The whole complex of educational, scientifical and social opportunities are to their service. Besides they can take short-term (1-2 months) and long-term (9-10 months) courses.

As a participant of international programs FSA, IREX, British Counsil, DAAD, Copernicus, Tempus, INTAS and many other organisations and funds University regulary sends students, teachers and researchers for training and probation to various countries of the world.

During last years students, postgraduates, teachers and scientists of the Technical University have visited universities, research and linguistic centres in USA, UK, Germany, France and other countries.
