Director of Computer Technologies and Information Protection shares his student life memories

Vladimir Tregubov is the graduate of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Informatics of KAI. Nowadays, he is the director of the Institute of Computer Technologies and Information Protection.

“One of the fondest memories of being a KAI student related to the engagement in research activities. At the second year of studies at the university, I worked in a research team with the professor of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Informatics. We were solving a very complex optimization problem for one of the enterprises. Therefore, our team decided to apply a well-known algorithm, and I wrote a program for its implementation.

Eventually it turned out that due to the complexity of the problem, solving it with the required accuracy on a computer took several days, which obviously did not satisfy the customer’s requirements. However, I managed to come up with a new algorithm, which helped to reduce the time of solving the problem with the required accuracy using a computer up to several minutes.

Two years later, I came across an article of a famous scientist in the field of system optimization, where he described a similar algorithm. More than 45 years have passed since then, but I am still proud of my achievement, obtained during my student years.

My advice for the future generation would be: start learning how to study, use educational materials, prepare for test and exams, and cultivate science properly. By the way, those students who listen to me – always succeed!”
