KNRTU-KAI Starts Fundraising Campaign for Museum of Technology

21.06.2017

With your help, we will revive the prestige of being an engineer.

KNRTU-KAI starts the fundraising campaign for the creation of an Interactive Museum of Technology for children inside the legendary supersonic passenger airliner Tu-144.

The university plans to open the museum on December 31, 2018. This date will mark 50th anniversary of Tu-144’s maiden flight. The future museum will be unique in terms of equipment and is supposed to rival with the best technical expositions of the world.

The aircraft is planned to be painted. It is also planned to restore the cockpit and the workplace of a navigator as well as to put into operation the droop-nose and retractable canards. Visitors will be able to operate these elements by themselves from the cockpit. The future interactive museum will vividly demonstrate several physical and technical effects.

It is also planned to create the exposition around the aircraft. One of the four jet engines is supposed to be sectioned in a special way to display its internal structure. Electricity will be supplied to it, so that the turbine will rotate. This will give museum visitors a unique chance to learn how the jet engine is arranged. One of the most interesting showpieces will be a space capsule which will be provided by Roscosmos.

All this is done to awaken the interest in engineering professions among the younger generation. The exhibition as well as the aircraft itself will tell about discoveries and inventions in cognitive and playful way. "How it is made?" and "How does it work ?" –  all this topics should impress kids and turn the magic into vivid reality.

"We want to show that being an engineer is cool, that it is interesting to learn these sciences. And we hope that those children who will touch interactive exhibits will enter our classrooms as students in the future," said KNRTU-KAI rector Prof. Albert Gilmutdinov.

According to preliminary calculations, painting of the aircraft will cost 3-4 million rubles. Creating an exposition will cost approximately 30 million. Provision of communications and arrangement of the territory will require additional funds.

In order to raise funds for the museum, KNRTU-KAI has created a crowdfunding platform. Now everyone can make a contribution to the development of engineering science and the future of our children at tu-144.kai.ru/donate.

KNRTU-KAI also announces museum projects competition. The university invites design bureaus, professional architects and designers, organizations engaged in designing and creating museums, students, as well as all enthusiasts to participate. The full terms of the competition, deadlines and other detailed information can be found on the museum's website at tu-144.kai.ru/konkurs.

Another feature of public discussions of the future museum is a special forum which was launched on the website of the Tu-144 museum. Feel free to share your thoughts about museum’s concept: tu-144.kai.ru/forum.

Please feel free to ask any questions via email tu-144@kai.ru
