To conduct scientific research is one of high-priority tasks for KNRTU-KAI development. The university is involved in carrying out basic and applied research in the following priority fields:

  • Aeromechanics, designing and structural testing of products and structures in aircraft machine-building;
  • New composite techniques and materials for the aircraft industry;
  • Physical and technical basics and techniques for the creation of engines and energy-efficient installations;
  • Control systems and information technologies in high-tech machine-building;
  • Radio- and optoelectronic info-communication systems and complexes;
  • Research and creation of nanostructured materials and their application techniques;
  • Metrology of nanostructures and nanomaterials.

The conducted research as well as experimental designs performed on requests of customer enterprises directly influence the development of an innovation sector in the economy of the region and Russia: transferring high-tech machine-building technologies to the industry, enhancing labour productivity, cutting production costs, creating new  jobs, training personnel for the industry. The relevance of scientifically applied research in the above-mentioned fields is confirmed by a long-term cooperation with the largest enterprises of the aircraft and car-making industries in compliance with Government regulations No. 218 and 220. Basic competitors on promoting high-end technologies to the market are European corporations (Germany and the Czech Republic mainly).

Scientific research conducted at KNRTU-KAI encompasses basic and applied research of its lecturers and students. The range of overseas scientific contacts of the university embraces European countries: Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland; the CIS-countries such as Tadzhikistan, Turkmenistan and Ukraine.

KNRTU-KAI’s lecturers and students participate in projects within the framework of Government Regulation No. 218 of April 9, 2010 “On State support measures on cooperation development of the Russian higher educational institutions and organizations, implementing integrated projects on creating high-technology products”.
