Vladimir I. Lobachev was born in 1937 in the Amur Region. After graduation from KAI, he worked at the Central Design Bureau of Machine Building, the Experimental Design Bureau No. 1 led by Sergei P. Korolev (1961-1966). Since 1967, he had worked at the Central Research Institute: head of the laboratory, since 1970 – head of the department, since 1976 – deputy head of the Mission Control Center (MCC), since 1984 – head of the MCC. Since 1990 – head of the Department of Computer Science at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia.

The established Mission Control Center, with the assistance of Vladimir I. Lobachev, made it possible to control all manned spacecraft and stations, launched in Russia, including international manned space programs.

Vladimir I. Lobachev:

• Laureate of the USSR Council of Ministers Prize (1989),
• Recipient of the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the Medal In Commemoration of the 850^th Anniversary of Moscow.
