Visit of RWTH Aachen

Both German and Russian sides look forward to strengthening their research and academic cooperation.

During the meeting at the Center of Composite Technology (CCT) KNRTU-KAI representatives of both institutions discussed possible areas of cooperation, such as development of folded cores for composite sandwich panels, 3D reinforced structures, including fastening elements, as well as design and production of parts from hybrid materials. Special attention was paid to development of composite high-loaded helicopter units. Dr. Gries emphasized high level of research being conducted at the CCT, expressed the intentions to cooperate and invited Dr. Khaliulin and CCT team to visit ITA RWTH Aachen to explore their facilities and potential.

 

 

Plans for collaboration with RWTH Aachen include joint educational activities in the area of Materials Science and Composite Technologies. In the second half of the day prof.Thomas Gries and Mr.Viktor Reimer visited the German-Russian Institute of Advanced Technologies (GRIAT) to discuss the possibilities of opening a new MSc program in GRIAT. The colleagues planned out the first steps for signing an MoU, preparing Joint Curricula and initiating corresposndence among faculty to outline the rest of the details.

In the afternoon, German colleagues joined a special ceremony of placing the legendary supersonic passenger aircraft TU-144 on the platform next to the GRIAT building. Next, they visited the engineering lyceum of KNRTU-KAI and were impressed by the modern infrastructure and high level of engagement in technology and small-scale enginnering projects that lyceum students demonstrated.
